Your Guide To Get The Best Skin For The New Year’s

By | Skin | No Comments

Have you ever wondered how Korean people get their glowing and dewy skin? This article created by the experts at Seoul Guide Medical will explain it! Together with us, you’ll have a great start to the new year!

How To Get Glowing Skin

Although topical products such as toner, ampoules and creams play a role in skin care, Koreans get their glass skin look by undergo treatments at skin care clinics and dermatology clinics. This article will cover basic treatment and not go into laser or more advanced treatments to reduce pigmentation, reduce pores, wrinkles etc. General treatments are done to improve skin quality, texture and leave you looking and feeling your best.

Although there are many general treatments to choose from depending on your skin condition, two of the most popular ones are the BB Shine and the Korean Oxygen treatment.  Both of these are non-invasive and have little to no downtime. They are great for the holidays if you want glowing skin without having to wait until the results are noticeable. You leave with the results right away or by the next day at the latest. Please note that these treatments are not simple facials that you can get a spa but are effective treatments that are done at clinics.

BB Shine

BB Shine incorporates the most advanced form of cleaning and serum infusing aqua machines also known as aqua peel. This treatment provides cleaning via suction, exfoliating, extracting, and hydrating. The BB shine is excellent for those who want a facial but don’t want to have anything invasive. It’s important not to confuse BB Shine with BB Laser. The latter is a specific pore laser treatment.

Before undergoing the BB Shine treatment you may get a skin scan which will determine if you should undergo this exact treatment and see the doctor. You will then have your face professionally cleansed and your pores opened through a high end steam machine. Once your pores are opened, the BB Shine machine will have the first step suction tip attached and extraction of dirt and other particles in your face will begin. While the vacuum process occurs, AHA’s, BHA’s, and hyaluronic acid is deeply infused into your skin using the same machine. The tip of the BB Shine suction machine is changed which allows for a deeper level of penetration and additional rounds of treatment are done over the entire face including the nose. You will find that things such as whiteheads and blackheads are removed without damaging the skin which is something that easily can happen when using store bought extraction stickers. Once the high end aqua portion of the treatment is done you will undergo a series of additional treatments such as ultrasound, radio frequency, cooling strips, diatomaceous earth mask, PDRN treatment and rejuvenation laser light therapy. The exact steps within the treatment vary depending on your skin needs.

This treatment gives you smoother skin, better skin tone, rejuvenated skin, reduces acne, improves skin volume, removes whiteheads, removes blackheads and leaves your skin looking glassy. There are also other treatments that may go well with this one.

The entire treatment will take about 40-60 minutes depending on your needs. This treatment is non-invasive and can be done at a maximum of 2-3 times per week if needed but most people in Korea do it either once a week, once to a few times per month or as needed.

With skin care just as with skin products, you get what you pay for. If you are using low quality aqua machines, low quality ingredients, remove essential ingredients such as PDRN, remove additional treatments such as ultrasound, rejuvenation laser light therapy etc., then the cost will be lower but so will the results. We have seen BB Shine treatments go as high as around 1,000,000 KRW per treatment but for high end treatment you will normally be paying between 250,000 KRW to 400,000 KRW per treatment. Lower than this and you are sure to get low quality. To find out the exact price of your treatment contact us at [email protected]

Korean Oxygen Treatment

The Korean Oxygen Treatment is another way to achieve glowing skin. It works the best when hyaluronic acid deeply infused into the skin. Don’t be afraid of the word acid here, it will not damage your face. The aesthetician uses a high-pressure device to blow hyaluronic acid into the skin, after which she places the oxygen dome over the face. In this dome, only purified oxygen is used. The patient inhales the oxygen, and the skin absorbs it as well the hyaluronic acid even better. An added benefit is that with the pure oxygen dome, you feel great! This treatment can be combined with BB Shine and often is.

The oxygen dome also makes sure the skin can absorb the all the serums and nutrients more efficiently that are used during treatment. It also helps regenerates skin cells, removes bacteria which causes acne, boosts collagen production and overall skin tone.

This treatment is non-invasive and can be done whenever needed. Just like with BB Shine, most Koreans do it either once a week, once to a few times per month or as needed.

The Korean oxygen Treatment takes about 30 minutes to complete and doesn’t hurt. In fact, it feels great! There is also no downtime, and you can even wear makeup right after the treatment. You can leave the clinic right away with dewy and glowy skin.

The cost of this treatment depends on the ingredients being used and the quality of the oxygen dome as well as the quality of the clinic. If you have a cheap oxygen dome and cheap ingredients then you get a lower price but drastically lower results. One thing you should think about is how much money you spend on topical products that scientifically do only a fraction of what skin care treatments do. You will then see that the cost of these treatments is relatively inexpensive especially since you are getting the top quality treatments in the world.

During the Pandemic

These treatments are great for getting the dewiest skin and achieving that radiant look. Unfortunately, we are still in a pandemic, and most countries have instituted a protective mask system which is causing havoc with people’s skin. The above treatments help so much by improving your skin so you won’t end up with “mask skin”. It’s best not to leave it until it is too late. We see the mask effect on patients who end up with allergic reactions and even acne. This would require more advanced treatments to fix. It’s better to keep your skin in good condition by getting treatments when needed.  For other details about the pandemic situation in Korea, we’ve written an article about getting plastic surgery in Korea during the pandemic. You can read it here.

Home-Care

For the best home skin care, there are some things you can do. It’s essential to know how to treat your skin the right way. Using different ingredients can be used to obtain the best effects. To understand what kind of ingredients you can use, you also need to know what skin type you have. Here’s a quick overview of what skin types there are and how to know which skin type you have.

What is my skin type?

There are a few main skin types.

  1. Oily skin
  2. Dry skin
  3. Combination skin
  4. Sensitive skin

This skin type can be combined, but to keep things a little more straightforward, we’re going to use these four. There is also a fifth type where the skin is “normal.” Here is where the sebum production is in the normal range; the skin isn’t too dry either, and it can withstand any environmental change.

To know your skin type is the essential part, as mentioned before. But how do you find your skin type? There are a few characteristics to each skin type. Here’s a quick overview of what each of them is.

Oily skin characterizes itself by producing too much sebum. Sebum is an oily substance that keeps your skin supple and smooth, but if there’s too much sebum production, you might have an oily skin type.

You have oily skin if:

  • Your face is shiny and often has breakouts
  • You don’t have wrinkles, or they are less visible
  • Your pores are visible and enlarged
  • Your makeup wears off easily

Dry Skin

Dry skin is the complete opposite of oily skin. The skin is not producing enough sebum and can create an itchy face.

You have dry skin if:

  • Your skin feels rough, tight, itchy, and lacks elasticity
  • You’re prone to redness, irritation, and infection
  • Your pores are barely visible
  • You have fine lines and wrinkles, often at an earlier age than others
  • Your skin looks dull

Combination Skin

As the name suggests, this is a combination skin type between dry and oily skin. With this skin type, sebum production is high in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) but lower on the cheeks, eyes, and mouth.

You have combination skin if:

  • You have an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin)
  • You have enlarged pores in the T-zone area
  • You have blackheads and some impurities
  • You have normal to dry cheeks

Sensitive Skin

Like dry skin, your sebum production is low, which makes your skin dry, and it can have the characteristics of a dry skin type. It is also sensitive to many ingredients in skincare, and it is reactive to changes in your environment.

You have sensitive skin if:

  • Your skin reacts quickly to much skincare
  • Your skin shows redness
  • You have dry skin
  • You are prone to breakouts (irritation on the skin is also a factor for acne)
  • You are prone to sunburn and rashes

What to look for in ingredients

As you can see, there are many differences in each skin type. This is also why not every skincare product works for every person, and this changes even if you have the same skin type.

Oily skin

This skin type has high sebum production, resulting in overall oily skin, bigger pores, and breakouts. Because of the oily skin, sometimes it’s thought that you should remove the oil and not use moisturizers. Because of this, many people with this skin type have dehydrated skin. Hydration in the skin is essential in all skin types; the only thing you should do is choose the proper hydration for your skin. Choosing the right ingredients is vital, and beneath is a list of what ingredients you should look for.

For oily skin we recommend:

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA)
  • Retinol
  • Salicylic acid (BHA)
  • Niacinamide
  • Glycolic acid (AHA)

Hyaluronic acid (HA)

As mentioned above, hydration is essential, and this molecule, produced by your own body, traps the water in the body. It also delivers moisture directly to your skin cells, making it effective in its capabilities.

Retinol

This ingredient is often used for anti-aging products as it also reduces fine lines and wrinkles, but it does more! Retinol, also known as Vitamin A, reduces the sebum production. This results in a less sebum, and therefore less acne breakouts. However, it is an ingredient that doesn’t go well with AHA’s like glycolic acid or BHA’s like salicylic acid, or vitamin C. Retinol has a lot of benefits but one should choose well what type of ingredients they combine it with.

Salicylic acid (BHA)

This is probably the most well known anti-acne ingredient. But how does it work? Salicylic acid has a lot of great benefits including anti-bacterial factors. Acne itself isn’t just caused by excess sebum production. Excess sebum production results in clogged pores and black or whiteheads, but not acne. Acne is caused by bacteria. This can come from your hands, the outside air, or other factors. To have a product in your skincare routine that is antibacterial, is vital for people with oily skin.

Niacinamide

This ingredient has some similarities with Retinol and Salicylic acid. Like retinol, it reduces the sebum production and like salicylic acid, it’s anti-inflammatory, resulting in less acne. However the benefits are lower than retinol and salicylic acid. This ingredient also reduces the size of the pores and it’s non-irritating, making it perfect to combine with other ingredients and for people with sensitive skin.

Glycolic acid (AHA)

This ingredient can be derived from sugar cane but is most effective when made synthetically. It’s an exfoliant and removes the outermost layer of the skin. This mainly consists of dead skin cells, and glycolic acid works to loosen the bonds between the tightly packed skin cells. This molecule is a small molecule, and it gets into the deeper layers of the skin more easily. Here it works on the fibroblasts, which take care of your skin’s elasticity, and therefore wrinkles and fine lines. It can also work as a water-binding molecule, resulting in more hydration.

Sensitive and dry skin

Whether hereditary, environmental factors cause sensitive skin, or if the use of low-quality skin products causes it, this type of skin needs hydration and soothing ingredients. Anything non-fragrance is the best since many people with this type of skin find that fragrance or perfume causes irritation and sensitivity beneath a list of ingredients for people with sensitive and dry skin.

For sensitive and dry skin, we recommend:

  • Aloe vera
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Ceramides
  • Lactic acid (AHA)

Aloe vera

This ingredient is well-known for its soothing capacities, great for irritated skin. It also has hydrating benefits, which deliver well-needed hydration.

Hyaluronic acid (HA)

This ingredient is well known for its hydrating capacities and can replenish the skin. It moisturizes, soothes, and prevents moisture loss. As a bonus, it also acts as an antioxidant and defends against environmental factors.

Ceramides

This ingredient also helps with hydration but in a different way. This fatty lipid or waxy-like molecule holds the skin tightly together. It does for dehydrated skin to have the hydration levels in the skin at a certain level. It protects the outside layer from allergens and environmental factors, making it great for sensitive skin.

Lactic acid (AHA)

This ingredient can help with exfoliating the skin. Because it’s a very gentle exfoliant, it’s suitable for sensitive skin as well. It also works as hydration by strengthening the skin’s barrier in making more ceramides. As mentioned before, ceramides are fatty lipid, which traps the moisture inside, hydrating the skin.

Combination Skin

As mentioned before, a combination skin type can cause oily skin and has dry skin areas. A person with a combination skin type should be careful not to lower the sebum production in the arid regions and not be too gentle in the oily areas. The cause of combination skin can be different from person to person, and sometimes it’s just genetics. It can also be caused by the weather, hormones, and stress.

Because this skin type has dry and oily skin, it’s important to incorporate different ingredients into your skincare routine. Like oily skin, it’s essential to integrate salicylic acid for its anti-inflammatory and sebum-reducing benefits. Niacinamide can be included as well for its anti-inflammatory but also its hydrating benefits.

Hydration with this skin type is one of the most critical factors. Because the skin lacks hydration, we need to add this to the skin routine.

So, in general, we’d recommend:

  • Hyaluronic acid (for hydration)
  • Salicylic acid (for exfoliation and anti-inflammatory)
  • Niacinamide (for anti-inflammatory and reducing of sebum production)
  • Glycolic acid (for exfoliant and hydration purposes)

Many top end clinics used the Seoul Guide Medical Elegance Sheet Masks as part of their take home skin care kits after treatment. These masks have been bio designed using genetic data and other data gathered from skin care clinics. The result is the highest quality masks designed to balance out your skin levels and get your skin to optimal condition. This is functional cosmetic product and not just a feel good product. Of Course there are limitations when using topical products at home but in combination with clinical skin care, the effect is outstanding.

Famous 10-Step Korean Skincare Routine

Together with this information about the different skin types and about what each ingredient does for each skin, you can make the 10 step Korean skincare routine even more effective.

A 10-step Korean skincare routine consists of:

  • Make-up remover and oil cleanser

First, a make-up remover and an oil cleanser has to be used to remove all the make-up, the pollution from the outside air, sebum and SPF.

  • Water-based cleanser

Cleaning two times with a cleanser that targets something else than the oil cleanser is more effective than washing your face once. This cleanser targets water-based impurities like sweat.

  • Exfoliator

This step cleans out pores and removes dead skin cells for brighter and smoother skin. It also helps to absorb the products after this step.

  • Toner

The toner helps prep the skin for the other products to follow and removes any leftover residue of the cleansers.

  • Essence

This step helps with hydration, anti-aging, and your overall skin tone.

  • Serums

Here’s where the serums come in. It targets the specific problem areas and your skin concerns.

  • Sheet mask

Sheet masks are at the center of Korean skincare and help your skin absorb as many nutrients and moisture as possible.

  • Eye cream

This step of the routine hydrates helps with puffiness and fine lines around the eyes by hydrating.

  • Moisturizer

Which type of moisturizer you need depends on your skin type, but it should seal in the moisture of all the completed steps.

  • Sunscreen

Always finish off with sunscreen (SPF) in the daytime. Sunscreen works as the best anti-aging product and protects your skin from harmful UV rays from the sun. Seoul Guide Medical has Korean beauty boxes that can be shipped all around the world. To purchase these products click here.

Glowing God(dess) Package: How To Get Glowing Skin

By | Skin | No Comments

Have you always wondered how to get that glowing, glass skin some people have? At Renovo Skin Clinic, we can give you that glowy look. This article created by the experts at Renovo Skin Clinic will tell you all about it.

What Is The Glowing God(dess) Package?

The Glowing God(dess) package is a popular treatment combined with BB shine and a resurfacing laser. It’s great for people who struggle with acne, acne scars, pigmentation, dull, and dehydrated skin. It combines the BB shine, which deeply cleans out your pores, with a resurfacing laser to target the hyperpigmentation, acne, and acne scars.

It gives you the best of both worlds and leaves you with glowy skin!

What Does The Treatment Looks Like?

The aesthetician will first clean your skin using cleansing products suitable for your skin type. Here’s where the glowing god(dess) package begins.

  • BB shine.

It’s a three-step suction device to suck out all of your impurities and pollution from the outside air. It targets sebum, white/blackheads and reduces Demodex, also known as “acne mites,” which are a significant cause of acne and other skin problems like rosacea. At the same time, it also gives your skin a hydrating booster with Hyaluronic acid, and it exfoliates with AHA’s and BHA’s.

  • Cooling gel and rejuvenation laser.

A cooling gel is applied before using the rejuvenation laser. The laser works with ultrasound energy and is excellent for improving fine lines and wrinkles, pore tightening, improving acne scars, skin brightening, and moisturizing, lifting, and skin rejuvenation. This device doesn’t have any downtime and is a great addition to prepare for the next step.

  • Numbing cream

Numbing cream is applied to prepare the skin for the resurfacing laser. This is being done so you won’t feel any pain or discomfort. A plastic wrap is placed on the numbing cream for about 20-30 min so that the cream has all the time to set in fully.

  • Resurfacing laser

Unlike any other laser where the downtime is long, and the side effects are significant, this laser has significantly less downtime than one week and has no to almost no side effects. The downtime of this laser is 1-3 days, where you’ll see minor red marks and up to one week until your skin is fully recovered. In addition to the improved downtime and almost no side effects. Thus, it’s safe for all skin tones. After just one treatment, you’ll already see results. You can expect a 10-15% improvement in your skin per treatment up to a maximum of about 50%. Even the most glass skin type looking people do not actually have 100% perfect skin. People can expect a maximum of a 50% improvement if you do several sessions (3-5 in most cases with a minimum spacing of 1 month apart).

  • Ultra duo and hyaluronic acid

This is another laser, but it calms down your skin. It also targets wrinkles and pigmentations, improves skin elasticity, and leaves you with moisturized skin.

Your skin might be a little red and somewhat warm, having done all these steps. The next step is to target that.

  • Cooling strips and rejuvenation laser

Cooling strips and a rejuvenation laser are being administered to soothe and calm down the skin even more, which leaves you with less red skin.

  • Luxury serum, rejuvenation cream, sunscreen

After the treatment is done, they put a luxury serum on your face, apply a rejuvenation cream, and as the last step, apply sunscreen.

  • To get the best healing process and, therefore, the best results, there are 2 types of facial masks you receive in a 13-day homecare kit. The first type is designed to help soothe and heal the skin faster after laser treatment. This is a functional mask (vegan) that actually has healing properties. It is not the kind you can buy in stores. The second type is designed to keep the moisture levels high and keep the skin looking as good as possible while healing. In the homecare kit, there are enough masks to last for thirteen days or use sporadically for 13 weeks.

How The Resurfacing Laser Works

This resurfacing laser works by pricking the skin with very small pins and transferring heat via radiofrequency into the skin’s surface, which creates microscopic wounds

This triggers the natural healing process of the skin. The healing process then naturally regenerates and repairs visible signs of skin damage such as (acne) scars, pigmentation, or wrinkles.

These very small wounds the pins create, are much smaller than traditional lasers.

This is why this resurfacing laser has less downtime and less side effects than other lasers.

Before and after the treatment

Before you get the glowing god(dess) package, we want to know if this is something you really need. Sometimes our patients wish for something to be done on their face, but it is not the right choice for their skin or skin type. This is where the consultation comes in.

Our excellent staff at Renovo Skin Clinic provides everything you need and can help you by explaining how a treatment works and what would suit your skin the best.

First, it’s essential to know what you want. Let us know your skin concerns and explain what you’d like us to do. We then make a plan of the treatments that could fit those concerns. After this, you will have a consultation with us, and the doctor. The doctor will take an even closer and more detailed look and determine if what we came up with helps your concerns.

Then comes the part where you can decide whether or not you want to go through with the treatment. If you do, we can get started right away!

After the treatment is over, it’s crucial to follow the instructions the staff at Renovo Skin Clinic gives you. This is to get the best results and to heal the fastest.

You should:

  1. Drink plenty of water
  2. Apply sunscreen of at least SPF 30+ every time you go outside
  3. Moisturize your skin well
  4. Apply a rejuvenation cream morning and night
  5. Avoid going to a sauna, swimming, or any form of intense exercise
  6. Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking for a few days after the treatment

Skin Treatment in Korea 2021

By | Skin | No Comments

The current global pandemic has affected us all, each in a variety of ways. Some people had plans of travel and taking time for themselves. You may have been one of those people, and you may have coincidentally been looking into Korea for these plans of experiencing a new culture as well as making improvements upon yourself simultaneously. Korea has been one of the most secure countries since the beginning of Coronavirus due to its quick response rates and previous plans it had explicitly created for the next pandemic. However, despite its preemptive programs and best efforts, COVID-19 has not been able to be wiped entirely. Additionally, to keep the virus under control, South Korea has had to create many restrictive regulations such as:

  1. Holding gatherings under four people.
  2. Establishments such as bars and restaurants all closing by 10 PM (though delivery is still available afterward).
  3. Fines for anyone caught not wearing a mask.
  4. Social distancing of 2 meters (particularly in schools, restaurants, cafes, etc.).
  5. Whenever there is a rise in cases or a local one (such as in a school), a temporary online ‘lifestyle’ is required with self-quarantine and an immediate Corona test.
  6. Pop-up testing centers around the country, particularly in the cities, to prevent infected people from coming in contact with others and overloading the hospitals.
  7. A mandatory 2-week quarantine for anyone coming back into Korea (regardless of nationality) at home or in a government facility if visiting (paid for by yourself).

These rules will fluctuate on specifics depending on rising or decreasing cases and clusters found in specific locations, amongst other things. Therefore, it’s recommended to check official government sites such as those referenced in this article for the most current updates. Not following these rules could result in heavy fines or something more serious, such as being banned or deported. As of now, if you are planning to come to Korea this year, some things to expect include:

  1. Temperature screening and filling out a Health Questionnaire at the airport.
  2. 2-week mandatory quarantine in your Korean home (for nationals or foreign national residents) or a government facility for short-term visitors or if a national’s home is considered ‘unfit,’ that will have to be paid for by yourself.
    1. Generally, costs about KRW 1,680,000 per person (~$1,600).
    2. Housing will be random and cannot be changed nor chosen.
    3. You will be escorted from the airport to your 14-day housing.
  3. Must have a negative result on the COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to coming to Korea.
  4. Re-testing for Coronavirus within three days of your arrival, during quarantine, regardless of having been tested before arriving in Korea.
    1. Visitors will be tested automatically at their quarantine facility.
    2. Residents must go by foot to the nearest public test center.
    3. Usage of public transportation is not allowed.
  5. Downloading an app ‘Self Diagnosis’ and updating it twice daily with any symptoms and a daily call from the KCDC.

If, for some reason, you do test positive once you are in Korea, you will be responsible for some, if not the whole, cost of expenses related to Covid-19.

  1. Some costs:
    1. If you are visiting short-term, The Government of the Republic of Korea will cover costs related to (a) test and (b) the use of isolation facility, whereas individuals will bear costs related to (a) treatment and (b) food, among others.
    2. Long-term visitors (Alien Registration Cardholders) will have similar payments as short-term. However, due to the mandatory health coverage that long-term residents must-have, the individual cost will be decreased to about 20% of what a short-term resident would pay individually.
  2. Full costs:
    1. If you contracted the virus due to breaking quarantine or the regulations stated previously, submitting a false PCR test, etc., you would be 100% responsible for all costs.

Due to the potential costs you may have to finance, it is seriously advised to make sure you are insured before making your trip to Korea. If, when coming to Korea, you do not comply with the quarantine guidelines, you may face up to 1 year of imprisonment or a KRW 10 million fine for violating the Quarantine Act and Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act. In addition, according to the Immigration Act, foreign nationals violating the regulations may face deportation or a ban on entry into Korea.

At this point, you may have noticed there is a category labeled ‘those exempt from quarantine.’ Therefore, you may be asking yourself, ‘how can I be exempted from quarantine?’ Currently, the only people who may be exempted from quarantine are people who hold an A1 (Diplomat) or an A2 (Government official) visa or a Quarantine Exemption Certificate that the Korean Embassy or Consulate-General issued prior to the entry. However, recently, the Korean government announced that quarantine regulations are waived as of May 5th, 2021, for those who are fully vaccinated in Korea.

In conclusion, if Korea had crossed your mind as an option for traveling for a vacation or for receiving some of the world’s best treatments and procedures for a reasonable price, the general guidelines, as well as quarantine regulations, should be something you consider. As stated earlier, it is essential for you to check all current rules prior to your trip in case anything on this list has changed, mainly as Korea works on a region-by-region regulation system, not as a whole country. Suppose you feel comfortable financially and time-wise with what is necessary to travel to Korea currently. In that case, it’s advised to reach out to guide medical companies that are eager to help make your experience as painless as possible. They handle everything from airport pick-up, housing, translation to post-treatment care and making sure you felt confident and comfortable throughout the whole process. They also often group all these things into a package deal to make it as painless and affordable as possible. Have safe travels!

Male Non-Surgical Facelift in Korea – Male Non-Surgical Facelift Towards Handsomeness

By | Skin | No Comments

The male non-surgical facelift is becoming a common plastic surgery procedure among men these days. In the past, these kinds of procedures were only popular among women, but men have realized the benefits they can also get from non-surgical facelifts and facelifts in general. In today’s society, men have also become conscious of their appearance and make efforts to find ways on how to improve it. With the innovations in plastic surgery, which includes non-surgical procedures, a lot of people can now experience anti-aging procedures without the need for surgery.

What is a Male Non-Surgical Facelift?

A male non-surgical facelift is a cosmetic treatment that is responsible for getting rid of the signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging on the face. From the name itself, the treatment options that are used are non-surgical procedures that are capable of replacing volume, rejuvenating, tightening, and lifting the face

They are either injectable, laser resurfacing, peels, ultrasound-based, or radiofrequency-based. The most common of these treatments are the injectable option, such as dermal fillers and Botox. These treatments can be combined to produce better results.

There are factors to consider as males having a non-surgical facelift compared to women differs due to some factors. As compared to women, men bleed more during surgery, which makes them more prone to hematomas. Also, since male hairlines are receding, it is sometimes a struggle for surgeons to hide surgery scars. Beards are also another factor to consider in men because getting a facelift surgery may affect the hair on the face.

Benefits of Male Non-Surgical Facelift

Undergoing a male non-surgical facelift is beneficial in many ways, especially to males who want to improve their appearance. This procedure can bring significant benefits physically, psychologically, and emotionally. Some of the benefits of a male non-surgical facelift include the following:

  • Enhanced appearance
  • Elimination of loose sagging skin on the face
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Little to no downtime
  • Minimally invasive procedures
  • Lasting effects (improved longevity with maintenance)
  • Better quality of life
  • Boosts confidence
  • Contentment with one’s skin

Male Non-Surgical Facelift Procedures

Since the procedures for a male non-surgical facelift do not involve incisions, anesthesia would not be necessary. However, if you may wish for anesthesia, the doctor may give you topical anesthesia or numbing cream on the area that is to be treated. The duration of the procedure depends on which type of treatment you are undergoing. Usually, it lasts around 15 minutes to an hour and a half. The following are the treatment options for a male non-surgical facelift:

For whom is a Male Non-Surgical Facelift most recommended?

To know if you are the right candidate for a male non-surgical facelift, you should consult your doctor. Most males should be qualified for the procedure as long as they are healthy with no skin infections and not taking medications that could cause an adverse effect during and after the procedure. Other males who are generally qualified for a non-surgical facelift are:

  • Those who want to get rid of lines and wrinkles
  • Those who want to improve sagging of the skin on their face
  • Those who have a healthy weight
  • Those who are willing to quit or decrease smoking and alcohol consumption
  • Those who want to have a younger, more lifted appearance
  • Those who do not wish to undergo a surgical procedure
  • Those who are too busy to have a long recovery and downtime

Injectable treatments

  1. Botox – This treatment involves injecting botulinum toxin to muscles in the face to stop them from contracting, thus reducing wrinkles.
  2. Dermal fillers – Fillers are used to plump the skin and smoothen wrinkles with the use of hyaluronic acid.

Skin resurfacing treatments

These types of treatments under non-surgical facelifts for men are considered to be the most effective in skin lifting.

  1. Laser treatment – Ablative lasers stimulate new skin and collagen production by removing the top layers of the skin. Non-ablative lasers, on the other hand, use heat directly into the deeper layers of the skin to promote collagen production.
  2. Chemical peels – This treatment uses chemical solutions that make the skin peel after several days to give way to new and smoother skin.
  3. Microdermabrasion – This procedure is gentle enough to be repeated in shorter gaps. It uses a device with a fine tip that gently exfoliates the skin.
  4. Dermabrasion – This treatment uses a blade or a rotating tool to exfoliate several layers of skin until a certain depth is achieved.
  5. Microneedling – As the name suggests, this procedure uses ultra-fine needles to create “injuries” to the skin and stimulate natural skin healing and produce collagen.

Male Non-Surgical Facelift Recovery Time

The recovery time for a male non-surgical facelift varies depending on the treatment that was done. For injectable treatments such as dermal fillers and Botox, there is no downtime needed generally; however, one to three days of recovery may be necessary if you have swelling on the area of the treatment. Also, the results may not be instant and could become visible within two weeks after the procedure.

On the other hand, for skin resurfacing and lifting treatments such as laser rejuvenation, ultrasound, and radiofrequency, there may be minimal downtime depending on the invasiveness of the treatment that was used. Non-ablative procedures may not need any downtime at all, while ablative ones could take up to three weeks for a complete recovery.

After getting treatments for a male non-surgical facelift, whether the skin resurfacing type or the injectable type, it is best to protect your skin from the sun through the use of sunscreen or protective clothing. If you are experiencing any redness and swelling from ablative treatments, it is best to stay away from activities that can cause infection on the skin. To help maintain the results as long as possible, it is recommended that you care for your skin through proper skincare products and a routine.

Male Non-Surgical Facelift before and after

For optimal results, the treatments used in a male non-surgical facelift requires maintenance every few months to a little over a year. The procedures are effective enough in reducing the signs of aging in men and, just like in women, give them a more youthful, well-rested look.

With men beginning to seek out plastic surgery procedures more actively, a male non-surgical facelift is one of the procedures that can give them a better appearance by fighting the signs of aging without having to undergo surgery. There are several treatments available, such as injectable and skin resurfacing treatments that can be combined to achieve optimal results.

The procedures take only 15 minutes to over an hour without the requirement for anesthesia. The recovery depends on the treatment that you underwent, with the most extended option potentially needing up to three weeks. With proper skincare and treatment maintenance, a male non-surgical facelift can offer significant benefits and results that could match that of a surgical facelift.

If you have been considering a facelift and do not like to undergo the process and recovery of a surgical procedure, then a non-surgical facelift could be for you. Anti-Aging Treatment : What is Korean Anti-Aging Treatment All About?

By | Skin | No Comments

Anti-aging treatments have risen in demand because of the belief that looking young while growing older in number is beautiful and admirable. If only the fountain of youth were real, everyone would scramble to achieve a lifetime of youthfulness in one drink. Since the fountain does not exist in real life, other ways were invented to maintain a youthful appearance with age. If you are someone who is into anti-aging or is thinking of having an anti-aging procedure, read on to know more about the possible treatment options and more.

anti aging treatment in Korea

What is Anti-Aging Treatment?

There are currently two types of aging, namely, chronoaging and photoaging. Chronoaging is the natural process of aging, which begins in the mid-20s. This type of aging begins when collagen production and cell repair begins to slow down during the renewal process. Meanwhile, photoaging is brought about by damage caused by exposure to the sun.

With these types of aging, there have been several treatments that were invented to combat the signs. These anti-aging treatments are responsible for “slowing, preventing, or reversing the aging process” through different medications, devices, methods, and techniques.

What is Anti-Aging Treatment?

Procedures that combat aging can be recommended to a lot of people. They are especially recommended to those who are likely to show the most signs of aging, such as people who are in their mid-age. Specifically, these anti-aging treatments are recommended for the following:

  • Individuals who have wrinkled skin
  • Individuals who are struggling with sagging in their skin
  • Individuals who have crow’s feet around the eye area
  • Individuals who have loose skin in their upper and lower eyelids
  • Individuals who have brown spots or sun spots
  • Individuals who have wrinkles around their mouth

The Anti-Aging Treatment options in Korea

Several options can be effective in restoring the skin’s youthfulness and beauty after having been through the process of aging and the effects of environmental skin stressors. Several of the options are as follows:

Non-surgical treatments

  1. Botox – This treatment involves injecting botulinum toxin to muscles in the face to stop them from contracting, thus reducing wrinkles.
  2. Dermal fillers – Fillers are used to plump the skin and smoothen wrinkles with the use of hyaluronic acid.
  3. Topical treatments – this treatment uses retinoid to exfoliate the skin and reduce its roughness.

Skin Resurfacing Treatments

    4. Dermabrasion – This treatment uses a blade or a rotating device to exfoliate several layers of skin until a certain depth is achieved.
    5. Microneedling – As the name suggests, this procedure uses ultra-fine needles to create “injuries” to the skin and stimulate natural skin healing and produce collagen.
    6. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)- This treatment uses broad-spectrum light waves to tackle pigmentation and skin complexion.

Surgical Treatment

Facelift – This surgical procedure uses incisions to gain access to the underlying muscles and skin tissues and tightens them altogether.

Anti-Aging Treatment recovery time

The recovery for anti-aging treatments highly depends on which treatment you underwent. For treatments that are non-invasive and are in the form of injections like Botox and fillers, no downtime is required, and you can go back to your daily activities after the treatment. For some, there may be mild swelling that goes away after one to three days.

On the other hand, skin resurfacing treatments’ recovery may vary depending on how invasive the procedure is you underwent. Non-invasive and non-ablative ones may not need any downtime at all. Invasive and ablative ones could take two to three weeks of recovery, especially for treatments that exfoliate or “damage” the top layer of your skin. During the recovery period, it is best to stay away from the sun since your skin will be raw and more prone to sunburn and sun damage. Redness and scabbing are normal during this time since the wounds are healing, and new skin is taking over. Whether you had non-invasive or invasive procedures, it is always best to use sunscreen when going out and also wear protective clothing. Until your skin has fully healed, you may need to avoid activities that may cause an infection like swimming and anything that will make you sweat.

What are the benefits of having Anti-Aging Treatments?

Undergoing anti-aging treatments can benefit someone’s life significantly in the physical, social, and mental aspects. Some of the benefits that anti-aging treatments can offer are the following:

  • Improved appearance makes an excellent first impression
  • Makes you feel good and content about yourself
  • Increases self-esteem
  • Fixes damage caused by free radicals and the sun
  • Makes your face clearer and smoother
  • Gets rid of skin issues that are hard to eliminate
  • Availability of less invasive and non-invasive treatments
  • Several treatments to choose from based on your preference and what your skin needs

Anti-Aging Treatment Before and After

The results brought about by anti-aging treatments highly depend on the treatment that you underwent. There is a significant amount of innovation in the equipment and techniques used in these kinds of procedures. Considerable improvement in the appearance of the skin can be achieved even with the use of a simple procedure. In the before and after pictures below, you can see that the signs of aging from the patients’ faces are not anymore visible. The anti-aging treatments have done a commendable job of rejuvenating their faces and restoring a youthful appearance.

With the use of anti-aging treatments, it is now possible to slow, reverse, and prevent aging. With the three categories of anti-aging treatments currently available, you have a lot of options as to which treatments you would like to undergo. You can also choose whether you want an invasive or non-invasive procedure or a treatment that will give you either a temporary or long-lasting results. When it comes to recovery, the duration depends on how invasive the procedure was that you underwent. Seeing the results, it shows that these treatments are effective enough to improve the appearance and smoothen lines and wrinkles on the face.

Anti-aging treatments, invasive or not, surgical or non-surgical, require a board-certified plastic surgeon to ensure a successful treatment that will result in the desired outcome without any complications. At Seoul Guide Medical, we know of the best plastic surgeons in the country who have performed a lot of successful anti-aging treatments with both locals and foreigners. For a consultation, contact us through our website, and we guarantee you a safe procedure and a youthful, smoother appearance.

FAQ:

Will an Anti-Aging Treatment get rid of wrinkles permanently?

Anti-aging treatments will not get rid of wrinkles or any signs of aging permanently. This is because the aging process will continue due to gravity, the sun, and other environmental factors.

How long will the results last?

How long you can see the results for your anti-aging treatments depends on which type of treatment you underwent. Non-surgical treatments typically last for three months to a year or a little over a year before you should undergo another round of treatment. For surgical treatments and skin resurfacing treatments, the results could last for several years, especially when combined with the right skincare for your skin type and concerns.

Shurink HIFU Treatment in Korea – Quick Facts towards your perfect skin!

By | Skin | No Comments

Shurink HIFU treatment in Korea is considered as one of the most effective anti-aging procedures available. Different kinds of skincare and treatments are currently available in the market, but what often makes them ineffective is that they only treat the topmost part of the skin. With the new addition to anti-aging treatments in plastic surgery, you can now achieve that desired youthful glow. Shurink treatment does not only treat on a dermal level but, instead, reaches the deepest layers of the skin to provide the best treatment possible. Read on to know more about Shurink and what it can offer.

What is Shurink HIFU Treatment?

HIFU treatments were first known to be used and studied as a cure for prostate cancer and other applicable diseases. In 2008, it was first used in dermatologic and aesthetic practices. Come 2009, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved its safety for brow lifting.

Today, there have been several innovations in HIFU treatments, and one of the most recent is the Shurink HIFU treatment device. Just like other HIFU devices, it delivers ultrasound energy into the specific layers of the skin, which causes cellular damage. The device uses three cartridges, namely, the 1.5 mm for the superficial dermis, 3.0 mm for the deep dermis, and 4.5 mm for the SMAS. Once the damage heals, it generates new collagen and elastin that rejuvenates, lifts, and tightens the skin. This treatment is considered non-invasive since it does not cause any damage to the skin’s topmost layer.

Benefits of Shurink HIFU Treatment

A Shurink treatment is a non-surgical method that lifts and tightens the skin on the face and some body parts, but it is capable of providing similar results as a surgical facelift. This treatment can provide you with several benefits, which you can enjoy the moment you finish the procedure. Some of the benefits of a Shurink HIFU treatment include:

  • Reduction of wrinkles and fine lines
  • Non-invasive and non-surgical method for lifting the face
  • Improvement of the contour of the jaw
  • Getting rid of sagging in the neck area
  • Little to no recovery and downtime
  • Preservation of the surface of the skin
  • Stimulation of collagen and elastin production for better and healthier skin
  • Tightening of the eyebrows, nasolabial folds, and cheeks

Shurink HIFU Treatment Procedures

Other than having a consultation with your doctor, you do not need any additional preparation before getting a Shurink HIFU treatment. Anesthesia may also not be required since you will only feel tingling sensations and heat during the whole procedure. However, if you want to make sure that your treatment is pain-free, your doctor may give you topical anesthesia or numbing cream. The following below are the steps during your treatment proper:

  1. Your doctor or the staff will first clean the area that will be treated. It is highly suggested that you remove any makeup before having your treatment or not wear any makeup at all on the day of your appointment.
  2. If needed, they will apply topical anesthesia on the area to be treated.
  3. The doctor then places an ultrasound gel on the surface of the device that will be placed on your skin.
  4. Once the device is ready, your doctor will place the Shurink HIFU device on your skin.
  5. Using an ultrasound viewer, they will adjust the device to the right setting that fits your skin needs.
  6. They may also change from one cartridge to another, depending on the depth of the skin that needs the treatment.
  7. The doctor places the device around the treatment area until the right amount of ultrasound energy is delivered. This treatment usually lasts for around 15-30 minutes.
  8. When the area has been treated, the doctor will remove the device and will place another cream on your face that will serve as an anti-inflammatory and protection from the outside environment.

Shurink HIFU Treatment recovery time

Since Shurink HIFU treatments are non-invasive and do not damage the top layer of the skin, no downtime is required. You can go back to your daily activities after having the treatment. Some people even have the treatment done during their lunch break and go back to work right after. The effects of the treatment may differ from one person to another in the sense that some may experience mild redness and swelling because of their skin’s sensitivity to the ultrasound waves.

This is nothing to worry about and will gradually fade after two days. Washing your face is also allowed a few hours after the treatment. Also, be sure to use proper skincare and put on sun protection like sunscreen or hats when you have to be exposed to the sun. This is because the sun’s rays can speed up aging, and you would not want that after having your Shurink treatment.

Shurink HIFU Treatment before and after

Most patients only need one session of a Shurink HIFU treatment to get the results they want. There may also be some who may need several sessions depending on their skin’s laxity, sagging, and wrinkling, as well as how it reacts to the treatment.

With the before and after images of patients shown below, you can see that the Shurink treatment has been effective in making their faces appear smoother by eliminating fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging, allowing them to have a more lifted look. With the improvements, the youthfulness that most patients aspire to have is achieved, which they could not likely get with other non-invasive procedures.

To conclude, even though Shurink HIFU treatment is a non-invasive and non-surgical procedure, the ultrasound energy of the device used for the procedure not only treats the upper layers of the skin but delves deeper into the SMAS. Through this, collagen production regenerates, and the effects are long-lasting. Through the three types of cartridges available, the skin can be treated depending on which layer of the skin the issue comes from.

There are a lot of benefits from the Shurink treatment, including its being a non-invasive form of treatment, producing long-lasting results, and not requiring any downtime or lengthy recovery. The procedure is quick to the point that some people have their appointments during a lunch break from work.

If you are someone who wants to have a more lifted and younger-looking appearance without the need for surgery or a lengthy recovery period, have your consultation with us at Seoul Guide Medical. You may book your appointment through our website and experience a hassle-free journey to experiencing the best that a Shurink HIFU treatment can do for your skin.

FAQ:

How long does HIFU last?

How long the outcome of the Shurink HIFU treatment lasts varies from one individual to another. Usually, good results last for about a year or a little over. For maintenance, it is recommended that you have a treatment every year or every six months.

SMAS Lifting in Korea – Quick Facts Before Getting SMAS Lifting

By | Skin | No Comments

SMAS lifting surgeries have become widespread and common in today’s time, especially with celebrities and affluent people in society endorsing them. A lot of people are desperate to have that smooth, youthful appearance of the face that Korean’s embody.

No matter what anti-aging skincare you use, nothing can match the results that facelifts can give. Through innovations in plastic surgery, you can now achieve a more youthful facial skin, not only in the top layers but as deep as the muscles and tissues. If you want to know if a SMAS lift fits you, continue reading below.

What is SMAS Lifting?

SMAS lifting is an aesthetic procedure, also known as rhytidectomy, or more popularly called as a facelift. This cosmetic surgical procedure is responsible for rejuvenating the face through tightening and maneuvering of the SMAS when age-related problems occur, such as drooping and sagging of the face due to fat, tissue, and muscle.

SMAS lifting started during the mid-1980s, but before they created this technique, the conventional way of doing a rhytidectomy was pulling and removal of the skin to tighten the face. When they discovered the method of SMAS lifting, they realized that it produced rather long-lasting effects as compared to the traditional technique.

This is because the SMAS (superficial musculo-aponeurotic system) is responsible for the “coordinated muscular contraction of the face and providing a functional role of movement for expression.” Tightening this layer of the facial skin allows complete facial rejuvenation as compared to tightening only the overlying skin, which partially solves any age-related facial issues.

Benefit/s of SMAS Lifting

Since a SMAS lifting is for those who have evident signs of aging, the main benefit of this procedure is to improve an individual’s appearance aesthetically. Other benefits a SMAS lift can give a person are:

  • Help in tightening facial muscles
  • Gets rid of loose facial skin
  • Improves the contours of the face
  • Rejuvenates the skin
  • Eliminates or reduces facial wrinkles and creases
  • Makes the person look younger

How is SMAS Lifting done?

The appearance of the skin is one way to tell how healthy the person is, and through Intracel treatments, the youthful appearance of the skin is improved inside and out. Another reason to undergo an Intracel treatment is because of the benefits it offers, such as:

  • Regeneration of collagen and elastin, which are the building blocks of a healthy skin
  • Reduction of wrinkles and scars
  • Reduction of pore size
  • Improves skin’s elasticity and health
  • No downtime or lengthy recovery required
  • Comforts of a non-invasive procedure
  • The fast and comfortable treatment procedure
  • Long-lasting results

How is Intracel Treatment Done?

SMAS lifting procedures should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon who is well-experienced or specializing in face lifting procedures to avoid complications and disappointing results. The rhytidectomy procedure will last for 2-3 hours. To continue, general anesthesia is administered, although there are instances where local anesthesia with IV is preferred depending on the extent of the patient’s case. After the anesthesia has taken effect, the following steps commence:

  • Incision

    1. Before making the incision, your surgeon will first draw a line that will become a guide for the placement of the precise incision.
    2. They then make the incision from the hairline at the side of the temple and will go through the front crease of the ears until it curves, going to the back ending in the lower scalp.
  • Lifting

    1. The surgeon will then rearrange and lift in a higher position the skin, muscles, and tissue.
    2. They will then remove the excess skin and re-drape it over the patient’s face.
  • Suturing of incision

Once the surgeon finishes lifting the SMAS, skin, and tissue, they will close the incision using sutures that dissolve over time, or potentially sutures that will need to be removed after several days.

SMAS Lifting recovery time

During the recovery period, it is normal for you to experience bruising and swelling, just like any plastic surgery procedure. The healing time depends from one person to another; however, it usually takes two to three weeks for bruising and swelling to subside and for the results to look normal. In 6-12 months, the result of the procedures would have reached its full setting, and appear the way the patient desires it to be.

Most patients can go back to work around the two or three-week mark. While your face is still recovering, it is a must that you follow your doctor’s instructions on how to take care of the incisions as well as yourself. You should also make sure to come to the clinic on your scheduled follow up checkups so that your doctor could monitor your recovery.

Proper rest, diet, head elevation, and icing are also crucial during the recovery period since these can speed up the healing process.

SMAS Lifting before and after

The results of a SMAS lifting will not be visible right away because of swelling and bruising. After several weeks when your face has healed and looks normal again, you will see that your appearance looks more youthful and rejuvenated. Just like the before and after photos of the patients below, you could visibly see that their appearance looks younger than before.

Also, wrinkles and fine lines have either been eliminated or reduced significantly, restoring an almost flawless and smoother complexion. When it comes to scarring due to the procedure, none of those are visible since the hair covers it, or they hid it in the natural creases of the ears and skin.

SMAS lifting surgery has been one of the most popular surgical procedures that combats the effects of the aging process. As compared to the traditional way of the face lifting, wherein only the skin is pulled and tightened, SMAS lifting produces a more rejuvenated facial skin not only at the top layers but deep in the muscles and tissues. Because of this, complete facial rejuvenation has become possible with long-lasting effects.

The procedure lasts for two to three hours with the careful leadership of a board-certified surgeon who specializes or is well-experienced in SMAS lifting procedures. After the surgery, the scars are not visible since they should be well hidden by the hairs, as well as the creases of the ears.

When it comes to the recovery, it only takes less than a month for you to get back on your feet and resume with your daily activities, given that you followed your doctor’s strict instructions on how to take care of yourself and your face.

When anti-aging remedies and skincare cannot do anything to combat aging, there is no other way than to get a SMAS lift, which promises and guarantees beneficial, long-lasting results. So, what are you waiting for? You can now ditch those anti-aging skincare that claims to combat wrinkles and lines, and instead, get a SMAS lift procedure through the help of Seoul Guide Medical. You may book an appointment through our website and let us help you in turning back the clock of time.

Intracel Treatment in Korea – What must you need to know

By | Skin | No Comments

Intracel Treatment in Korea is a standard skin treatment, which originated from the country itself. Knowing how Koreans are particular when it comes to achieving brighter and healthier skin, this treatment can combat the signs of aging as well as the common issues of acne and scarring.

A lot of people have these problems, may it be old or young, and most times it is impossible to treat them with skincare. If you are one of those people who has been shelling out vast sums of money to get rid of acne, scarring, and wrinkles, but nothing is working at all, then an Intracel treatment might be for you.

What is Intracell Treatment?

INTRAcel is a trademarked brand of radiofrequency microneedling device by Jeisys Co. in Seoul, South Korea. The device has 49 insulated microneedles that deliver energy into the skin tissues within a matter of 0.04-0.1 seconds. The needles used in the INTRAcel device have an insulated coating, except for the 0.3 mm at the tip where the thermal energy is released; through this, the surface of the skin is preserved. Therefore it does not require any downtime and reduces the risks of side effects due to the rejuvenation done in the dermal layer.

The most updated INTRAcel treatment device includes three platforms, namely, monopolar fractional microneedling (FRM-monopolar), bipolar fractions microneedling (FRM-bipolar), and the minimally invasive superficial RF rejuvenation (SRR). These platforms are considered safe and are suitable for every skin type. For best results, you should at least undergo 3-4 treatments spaced within four to six weeks because that is the time needed for collagen to regenerate.

What is RF Microneedling?

Radio Frequency (RF) Microneedling are non-invasive devices that use high-intensity radiofrequency to treat underlying tissues of the skin. The tool uses insulated needles that deliver the radiofrequency waves into the dermis through controlled heat energy. Because of this, it does not do damage to the surface of the skin, making it safer than the traditional microneedling treatments. This, in turn, aids in the regeneration of collagen and elastin, causing the skin to improve in quality, texture, and appearance.

What are the Benefits of Getting Intracel Treatment?

The appearance of the skin is one way to tell how healthy the person is, and through Intracel treatments, the youthful appearance of the skin is improved inside and out. Another reason to undergo an Intracel treatment is because of the benefits it offers, such as:

  • Regeneration of collagen and elastin, which are the building blocks of a healthy skin
  • Reduction of wrinkles and scars
  • Reduction of pore size
  • Improves skin’s elasticity and health
  • No downtime or lengthy recovery required
  • Comforts of a non-invasive procedure
  • The fast and comfortable treatment procedure
  • Long-lasting results

How is Intracel Treatment Done?

Getting an Intracel treatment can do a lot to improve the health of your skin in one quick and non-invasive procedure. It will only take 30-60 minutes of your time to eliminate scarring, acne, wrinkles, and rejuvenate your skin. To make sure that you are comfortable during the whole process, the doctor will apply topical anesthesia on the area being treated, which will take effect after 40 minutes to an hour. Once the anesthesia takes effect, your doctor will start the treatment.

  1. Your doctor will place the handpiece of the Intracel device over the area that requires treatment.
  2. The microneedles will then come out of the handpiece to penetrate the skin.
  3. Once the needles have penetrated the skin, it will release the radio frequency into the dermis.
  4. When the device has given off the sufficient radio frequency into the skin, the needles are withdrawn, and the handpiece is moved to another area of the treatment site until it has been adequately treated.

What is Fraxel Treatment?

Fraxel laser treatment is a kind of skin resurfacing laser treatment that uses a fractional thermolysis (FT) device that uses microscopic laser columns that treat the skin one fraction at a time. The treatment has a stamp of approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its use in the coagulation of soft tissues, treatment of rhytids, pigmentation due to age spots and sun damage, acne and surgical scars, elimination of wrinkles and lines, and the resurfacing of the skin. Fraxel by Solta Medical Inc. in Hayward, California, is the first commercial non-ablative fractional thermolysis device introduced to the public. Currently, Fraxel laser falls into two categories which are the ablative and non-ablative treatments.

Ablative Fraxel laser such as Fraxel re:pair is the more aggressive category of skin resurfacing laser treatment that tackles moderate to severe pigmentation, wrinkles, scarring, and skin texture issues. This was considered as an aggressive treatment because the laser removes the epidermis or the top layer of the skin and vaporizes some of the tissues in the dermis. However, as aggressive the treatment is with longer downtime and recovery, it still produces the most dramatic results in one session.

For those who have mild to moderate skin damage and want a less aggressive procedure, they can opt for the non-ablative Fraxel laser or the Fraxel re:fine treatment. This treatment can also be a form of prevention and maintenance for those who have less photodamage in their skin. Non-ablative Fraxel laser leaves the surface of the skin intact and only does the work in the deeper layers of the skin. Due to this, the patient may only have little to no downtime after the procedure, but since it is more gentle, the results are minimal and require 3-6 sessions spaced at 2-4 weeks to achieve the desired result.

Who is a Candidate for Fraxel Laser Treatment?

The best candidates for a Fraxel treatment should have any of the following:

  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Acne, surgery, or chickenpox scars
  • Wrinkles or lines on the face
  • Brown spots due to aging or the sun

How is Fraxel Laser Treatment done?

Fraxel laser treatment takes between 15 minutes to 1 ½ hours for the whole procedure. The duration mostly depends on the technique used and the size of the area being treated. You should arrive one hour before your scheduled appointment because the doctor will administer a numbing cream that takes 40-60 minutes to effect. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, the treatment will start.

  1. The doctor will apply a water-based gel on the patient’s face to protect the outer layer of the skin.
  2. He will then put a form of protection on the patient’s eyes to make sure that the laser beams will not damage the eyes.
  3. The doctor will then put the Fraxel laser device on top of the area for treatment.
  4. Once the treatment has finished, the doctor will apply a cream or gel on the area to protect the treated areas from being exposed to the outside environment.

Fraxel treatment Before and After

Through the “damage” brought about by Fraxel laser treatment to the dermis, it produces new collagen that tightens the skin and also improves skin tone, texture, and pigmentation. The procedure also eliminates scarring, age spots, sun spots, brown spots, and makes your skin look more youthful. Through the before and after pictures below, see for yourself how Fraxel treatment has improved the skin.

Fraxel treatment Before and After

The recovery for Fraxel treatment depends on which Fraxel laser you had. If you underwent the non-ablative laser, then your skin can heal within a week. For ablative Fraxel laser treatment, recovery can take two weeks or more depending on how fast the person’s body undergoes the healing process.

Right after the treatment, the skin will have swelling and redness and may feel and look like mild to severe sunburn (depending on the treatment). Some may also feel stinging and itching several days after undergoing the procedure; your doctor will highly advise that you should not touch, scratch, or pick the treated area because this may cause scarring. While recovering from resurfacing treatment, your skin will become dry and will also peel.

This is why it is a must that you follow your doctor’s instructions, just like the following:

Clean treated area two to five times every day using saline or diluted vinegar.
2

Always apply the skincare, especially sunscreen, that your doctor recommended for your treated skin.
3

After the area has completely healed, make sure to put on sunscreen every day and reapply every two hours.
4

Use a liberal amount of moisturizer to help moisturize and heal the new skin.

To conclude, Fraxel laser helps in the resurfacing of the skin from issues of aging, scarring, sun damage, and pigmentation, which results in tightened skin, improved tone, and texture, and clear, bright skin. The treatment is approved, thus can be beneficial to all skin types. With the two existing categories, it can cater to both mild and severe skin issues.
